“There is a duality in the yoga teacher training program, which has not only taught me the fundamentals and practice for the translation of Hatha yoga to others, but has opened an inner teaching within myself where I am learning self-awareness and a gentle approach to patience.” -Jaimie Boulter

“Debbie balances the principles of yoga in her teaching method, creating a robust andinteresting approach to passing on all the aspects that create a great yoga teacher. Debbie gracefully dances along the line between teacher and friend. Anatomy & Physiology

One of the most important tools for being a successful yoga teacher is a deep understanding of the human body. In this course you will learn Western and Eastern interpretations of the body and delve deeply into human anatomy. Learn how to use this knowledge to deepen your teaching capacity, understand injuries, and keep your students safe.

Teaching Methodology

Not every student learns the same way. It is very important as a yoga teacher to understand the philosophy and science of learning. You will understand how to be an empathic, conscious, teacher and how to approach your students in a kind and non- judgmental way.

Asanas/Poses

Yoga poses heal, strengthen and balance the body. And every human body is different. Learn how to give an accurate explanation of each asana and its variations, allowing each student feel comfortable yet challenged. You will study how to put poses together to create different sequences and flows, and eventually a full class! You will also learn how to move your class from pose to pose in a seamless and graceful manner. This program includes a 20 class card to Namaste. You can get started as soon as you sign up!

Sanskrit

The original language of yoga is Sanskrit. In this course you will gain knowledge of Sanskrit names for the Asanas and other key yogic phrases.

History and Philosophy of Yoga & Ayurveda

Come on a journey from the origin of yoga to modern times. This section of the course is taught passionately with movies, presentations and fun stories. You will learn the most traditional form of yoga and how to teach based on the yoga sutras of Patanjali. In addition, you will learn the principles of Ayurveda, the life science of yoga. The course starts off with a week-long Ayurvedic cleanse to balance your dosha (mind-body type) and get your body healthy and detoxified.

The Business of Yoga

Once you learn how to teach, it is important that you learn how to get started. This part of the course is set up as an apprenticeship. Students will spend one on one time with Deborah throughout the day and learn what it takes to generate students, private clients, and manage your personal yoga business.

Practicum

After the first week of school you’ll begin teaching mini yoga classes. These classes will give you the opportunity to get feedback about your teaching from your peers and instructors. You will gain the experience of teaching a real yoga class and learn how to confidently handle different situations that arise.

Voice Lessons

One of the most powerful tools a yoga teacher has is the gift of voice. You will learn how to conserve, project and balance your voice for a strong and soothing class with your own vocal style.

Nature Retreat

Namaste’s 200 hr. Yoga Teacher Training always includes a retreat in the magic of nature. You will have a chance to integrate and acclimate to all of the deep work you have done in the program. The retreats have a strong focus on meditation and turning inward, and are selectively chosen to take place in the most beautiful and peaceful areas of nature.
